Fully embracing its found footage conceit, the Paranormal Activity franchise has never been one to actively pull back the curtain and shine a light on its actors and plotlines, opting instead to silently perpetuate its ongoing mythology of a family plagued by demonic forces. But when the first trailer for Paranormal Activity 4 hit, it became apparent that a new teen cast member was taking center stage and possibly replacing the lead role of Katie (portrayed by Katie Featherston), leading many fans to wonder, "Who's the blonde girl in Paranormal Activity 4?"
Despite some misinformation spreading on the internet, the teen actress seen prominently in the trailers and promotional materials for Paranormal Activity 4 is 15-year-old Kathryn Newton, who is perhaps best known for her role on the former CBS sitcom Gary Unmarried, in which she played Jay Mohr's smart, precocious daughter. She also appeared in 2011's Bad Teacher as one of Cameron Diaz's students, the grandiosely-named Chase Rubin-Rossi.
In Paranormal Activity 4, Kathryn will play the latest victim of a demonic haunting started years earlier thanks to some supernatural shenanigans by folks who tampered with forces best left untampered. The fourth installment is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who also helmed the third film in the series.
