JONATHAN MORGAN HEIT on 'BEDTIME STORIES'
Interview by Michael J. Lee, Executive Editor for RadioFree.com
March 26, 2009
Arguably his most family-friendly movie, Bedtime Stories stars Adam Sandler as Skeeter Bronson, a handyman who tries to save the hotel his father once owned, finding the confidence to challenge a conniving manager after he unlocks a whole universe of imagination through telling stories to his young niece and nephew. This light-hearted fairy tale adventure also features a delightful ensemble, including Keri Russell, Courteney Cox, Russell Brand, Guy Pearce, Teresa Palmer, and Lucy Lawless.
We've always heard about the fun, laid-back atmosphere on an Adam Sandler set, but it's not often we get the perspective from the child stars. In this exclusive interview, Jonathan Morgan Heit, who plays Skeeter's nephew Patrick, talks about the experience of making this family comedy.
Bedtime Stories is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD.

RadioFree.com: What was your favorite scene to do in Bedtime Stories?
JONATHAN: It was the [ancient Rome scenes]...because we went to Napa Valley and shot in a winery that was meant to like look like a medieval castle. So we had school in a dungeon and stuff like that. And in behind the scenes, I got picked up by a real elephant.
That seems like it could be a little scary. Had you ever encountered an elephant before?
I've encountered one, but I've never been picked up by one...It picked me up by its trunk. It's really fun! [laughs]
From all accounts, this was a fun set. How did you like working with Adam Sandler?
He is hilarious, and he was really fun to work with. All my co-stars were nice and fun.
Did you all get to hang out together between takes?
Yes, we did. Not all the time, because usually they would rush me back to school. But yeah, we got to hang out.
How much time did you have to spend with your on-set tutor? And do you go to a regular school when not filming?
Three hours a day, at least...When I'm not filming, I go to a regular school.
Do you perform in plays at school?
Well, at our school, we don't really do plays, but at preschool, we used to do plays all the time.
Did that start your interest in acting?
Yes. Actually, that's how it started actually. Because this girl said, "Can I see some of your son's videos?" to my dad. My dad said sure. So she saw them, and then she said, "I'm a manager, I would like to manage your son." And yeah, that's how it started.

What are your favorite kinds of characters to perform?
Funny characters, definitely. But I like to be the bad character! I'm really good at doing evil characters!
Who is one of your favorite movie villains?
From Little Shop of Horrors, that dentist!
What are some of your favorite television shows?
I like all the shows basically. But I like Discovery Channel. It's fun to watch at night. That's how I fall asleep...I like this thing called Time Warps, where they take a camera and look at something that, we'll say, defies gravity or something. And they put it in slow motion and see how it works.
Since Bedtime Stories is a Disney movie, did you get to do anything at Disneyland?
Yes, I got to go to Disneyland for an interview...That was fun. We went early so we can just play around...My favorite ride is California Screaming, the one that goes upside down.
So you have no fear of the rollercoasters?
Some rollercoasters I have fears of, but not that one, because it's so smooth.
Thanks for taking the time to speak to us today.
You're welcome. Thank you for letting me.
