Ashes follows the story of two brothers from the inner city whose lives are unraveling. As one plummets deeper into mental illness, the other, Ashes, copes by throwing himself into the dangerous New York underworld. Ashes is torn between the family he is responsible for, and the community that consumes him.
In Their Words: About the Movie
While promoting her film First Snow in a recent interview, Piper Perabo previewed Ashes for a moment. This is what she had to say:
"Ashes is [by] Ajay Naidu, who's an activist. [It's] his directorial debut, and he's a friend of mine and he's a genius. He did Office Space, and he's like in sort of all these amazing films. And this movie is a semi-biographical about when he and his brother first moved to Manhattan and the whole Bhangra hip hop scene was coming off in New York--you know, all those, like, Punjabi DJs sort of mixing in all this stuff, and the kind of dance craze that sort of started within that."
