The Old English tale of the monster-slaying Beowulf may be centuries old, but the 2007 film from director Robert Zemeckis puts a brand new spin on the epic fable--not only does it fill in gaps in the original narrative, but it re-imagines the story with groundbreaking "performance capture" animation. From their broadest tumbles to the barely-perceptible movements of their eyes, actors are having their talents rendered into a lifelike virtual world.
Beowulf stars Ray Winstone as the flawed hero Beowulf and Angelina Jolie as the demonic mother of the monstrous Grendel--and she's a bad mother indeed, wreaking more havoc, perhaps, than her twisted, tortured offspring. Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn, Alison Lohman, and Crispin Glover round out a strong ensemble cast.
Beowulf is new on DVD, and fans who are interested in the intricate animation process of the movie will be pleased to know the disc is loaded with behind-the-scenes featurettes, as well as deleted scenes that give a glimpse into the early stages of animation. And since this is an "unrated director's cut," viewers can expect some bonus blood, and probably a few extra butt shots of Angelina Jolie's evil vixen.
To commemorate the release of the unrated director's cut of Beowulf on DVD, we're giving away five copies in a random drawing. To enter, simply fill out the form below...
